Mixalis Liapakis is a PhD candidate at the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (IESL) at FORTH, specializing in the optimization of hybrid additive/subtractive manufacturing processes. His research focuses on developing an integrated approach to enhance extrusion techniques, including Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) alongside laser processes like cutting and curing, for natural bio-based and synthetic biodegradable (sustainable) polymers.
He holds a Bachelor-Integrated Master’s degree from the School of Production and Management Engineering at the Technical University of Crete. During his studies, he worked on his thesis project at FORTH, where he designed and manufactured a novel Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) chamber.
His research interests include additive manufacturing, 3D-4D printing, laser processing, computational analysis, finite element analysis, and multi-objective optimization techniques, with a focus on sustainable materials and advanced engineering applications.
